The U.S. Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act and now Georgia Republicans are racing to do Trump's bidding. On June 17th, Governor Kemp and the Republican legislators will begin redrawing our voting maps. Their goal is to undermine our representative democracy. This legislative action is not required, it is a choice, a blatant power grab, and an attempt to reduce Black voting power.
To start, we are targeting Republican legislators on the committees. We are not appealing to their morality or ethics, instead, we are focusing on arguments that might persuade them to do what is best for themselves and Georgia. Some of these members are in at-risk districts and may already be concerned about their seat. We want to remind them that we will hold them accountable during the November mid-terms.
This is the list for House, we will follow up with a list for the Senate. We are including sample scripts, but we encourage you to tailor them to reflect your own experience.

A) Hi, my name is [NAME] and I am a Georgia voter.
I'm calling to express my strong opposition to redistricting. Your party's Trump-aligned agenda is deeply unpopular. Rushing to eliminate our Black lawmakers, who were elected by their communities, is going to hurt you in November. Do you remember the midterm in Trump's first term? Democrats gained 12 seats in the State House. Voters are watching and they want fair maps.
B) Hi, my name is [NAME] and I am a Georgia voter.
For Georgia's image, please forgo redistricting. We have already taken a reputational hit with foreign investors when ICE raided the Hyundai plant. Now your party is threatening to disenfranchise non-white voters across this state while the world is watching us host the World Cup. Do we truly want the world to regard Georgia as a backwater like they do the rest of the Deep South?
Georgia has spent the last two decades proving itself to be an international hub and a cost-effective alternative to New York in the Eastern Timezone with a highly educated, diverse workforce. This redistricting is bad for business.
C) Hi, my name is [NAME] and I am a Georgia voter.
I'm calling to express my strong opposition to redistricting. I've always been proud that Georgia was considered the cradle of the Civil Rights Movement. This unnecessary mid-decade rush to eliminate Black lawmakers is shameful and embarrassing. The Callais ruling does not require this and don't insult our intelligence by telling us it does. The majority of GA voters want fair maps. Voters are watching and you will be held accountable in November.
Forward this page to your progressive friends and family. We need everyone to call!
