Overt and systemic racism is destroying our democracy. It’s driving voter suppression, it’s driving the undermining of our electoral system, it’s driving misdirected economic policy, and it’s driving the violence of white nationalism. It is not only our country’s unhealed moral wound, but it also poses an existential threat to our system of government.
We believe that the most effective way for white people to recognize and eliminate systemic racism is through meaningful relationships with Black, Indigenous, and other people of color. The only way we can defeat white supremacy in America is by standing together as One: Black, white, Latino, AAPI, and Indigenous Peoples; immigrant and non-immigrant; LGBTQI, straight, and cisgender; those with and without disabilities; and those of every religion and no religion. We cannot transform systemic racism and oppression without transforming our group into one which embodies the Georgia we want to create. To that end, we hold the strong intention of continuing to diversify Necessary Trouble.
Never let anyone, any person or any force, dampen,
dim or diminish your light.
Representative John Lewis (1940-2020)
